Philosophy & Vision

  • Founding Philosophy

    Based on the educational ideology of the Republic of Korea,
    Handong aims to provide higher education of intellectual character,
    and spirituality in order to nurture future Christian leaders.

  • Educational Philosophy

    Based on Korea's educational ideology and the Christian spirit,
    Handong strives to nurture leaders who will change the world
    through its intellectual, character, and spiritual education.

    Grounded in the Christian faith through excellence in pedagogy and research,
    Handong strives to nurture future educators with godly character and creative intellect
    that promote academic excellence and contribution to the development of local & global communities.

  • Expectations

    Handong aims to nurture and equip students with the academic knowledge and skills required in various fields, character and attitude of honesty and service, and executive skills and proficiencies for responsible practice.
    The expectations are as follows.

    - Ability to understand the relationship between worldview and education and to illuminate education with a Christian worldview
    - Knowledge and ability to develop a variety of teaching methods based on the principles of student development and learning

    - Put honesty and service first in the field of education
    - Communicate with respect for various members in the field of education
    - Understand and continuously develop one's calling and gifts as an educator
    3. Executive Skills and Proficiencies
    - Research skills to explore questions and problems in the field of education
    - Implement and teach educational theories and Christian worldview in creative ways
    - Develop educational plans and programs that reflect the needs of various educational contexts

ACTS 2025

Handong Graduate School of Education is to pursue 4 strategic directions of ‘ACTS 2025’to become the
top Christian Graduate School of Education in Korea with the aim of cultivating trained Christian teachers based on Christian worldview and
developing education curriculum needed in various teaching fields.

Christian Education
  • Handong University Graduate School of Education seeks to provide a Christian education that integrates academic capacity with Christian faith, built on the foundation of a Christian worldview.
Competency-based Education
  • The school defines 9 competencies across 3 domains for Christian teachers and practitioners, including academic knowledge, character, attitude, and the ability to perform teaching tasks and techniques. The Graduate School seeks to develop all 9 competencies in the 3 domains in all subject areas with focus on specific areas of competencies.
Field-oriented Education
  • The school is focused on developing and delivering various teaching practices that is practical and useful, not only through the coursework and the Masters Thesis but through case studies, special lectures, comparative studies and field trips.
Global Education
  • The school promotes international mindedness, to empower Christian teachers and practitioners so that they have a better understanding of teaching contexts at home and abroad, as well as in developing countries. Accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) in 2015, graduates of Handong are certified to teach by ACIS, which allows for greater access to serve the educational needs of developing countries.

Feature

New majors based on Christian worldview
  • Handong Global University opened new major fields based on Christian worldview as the importance of value and character-building education emerged in schools. The newly opened General Social Studies Education major and Biology Education major courses were accredited by the Ministry of Education in 2004 and the two major courses were modified to Curriculum&Instruction major, which was accredited in 2013.
‘I-shaped’ global leaders equipped with academic excellence and innovative capacities
  • In accordance with Handong Global University's mission to foster ‘I-shaped’ global leaders equipped with academic excellence and global and innovative capacities based on Christian moral characters, Handong Graduate School of Education offers a variety of specialized and globalized education programs to cultivate competent Christian teachers with the ability to educate students based on Christian worldview.
Various special lectures and curriculum
  • Primary, middle and high school teachers in Pohang city (and vicinity) as well as teachers across the country are currently enrolled in winter and summer sessions of Handong Graduate School of Education. Students enrolled in the winter and summer sessions participate in various non-academic programs including special lectures as well as community lives while living in the dormitory.

  • Handong Graduate School of Education offers finest lectures in diverse fields to provide top-notch education for students. The programs of Handong GSE receive very high satisfacti on from students for offering strict academic management and various non-credit education programs.
‘ACTS 2020’ strategy
  • Handong Graduate School of Education established a long-term development plan, 'ACTS 2020' strategy along with Handong Global University's 'ARISE & SHINE 2020' strategy to become the top Christian Graduate School of Education in Korea with the aim of cultivating trained Christian teachers and developing education curriculum needed in various teaching fields.
